Legal Requirements for a Wedding in Costa Rica
For a civil marriage in Costa Rica , the following information and documents are required:
Full name
Profession
Passport number
Copy of Passport
Address
Date of Birth
Nationality
Marital Status duly authenticated by the Costa Rican Consul. If you can't present this document before the Consul, you may send the original here (3 weeks before) and we can make a sworn declaration about this issue
that will be signed at the same day of the wedding.
Father's full name
Mother's full maiden name
Parent's address
Original birth certificate duly authenticated by the Costa Rican Consul. If you can't present this document before the Consul, you may send the original to Costa Rica ( 3 weeks before) and we can make a sworn declaration about this issue that will be signed at the same day of the wedding.
Two witnesses with the following information:
Full names, marital status, profession, passport number, copy passport, address, nationality, the witnesses will have to sign here in Costa Rica .
In case of divorce:
Official copy of original divorce duly authenticated by the Costa Rican Consul.
For women (if applicable) 300 days must have passed from the official date of the divorce. If there is less than 300 days between divorce and marriage, a medical certification that rules out pregnancy is required, as well as the full name of the former husband.
